Julie Roper MBACP

I believe that while we are all truly unique and individual we can sometimes go through periods in our lives that can cause us to have problems, like many others.  Asking for help, i.e. engaging in therapy can give us insight and allow us to make the changes we need to in order to live a more functional life.  Working through difficult feelings can be life changing.  My main training is in Humanistic Therapy, underpinned by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Psychodynamic counselling.
I work with couples, families, individuals and groups.

Having worked in the private sector, the voluntary sector and prison service over many years, I have gained extensive experience in the field of counselling and therapy.  I have worked as an addictions therapist at Cygnet Hospital, Godden Green.

I am a recognized provider of most private healthcare insurance companies, and most of my referrals have come from GPs, consultants and personal recommendation

I am an experienced counsellor trained initially in the Humanistic approach which includes Person Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. I believe that each person is unique and I tailor my working methods to meet the individual needs of the client. In order to meet those needs I have trained in different approaches; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Sandplay Therapy, Jungian Psychology.

Experience
I worked as a Bereavement Counsellor at a local hospice for two years and for Hastings and Rother Counselling Service for four years, where I worked with NHS referrals, gaining experience in a wide range of issues. For the past 2 years, I have been employed as a child and family counsellor, based at schools in the Kent area, where I have worked with children between the ages of 5 and 18 years old.
